The Story

Max Frank grew up as one of two sons of San Andreas real estate developers. When his parents died in a private plane crash, he and his older brother Kevin inherited everything: the portfolio, the accounts, the properties. Kevin went one direction with that. Max went sideways.

He is impossible to miss. Green hair, a fedora he never takes off, a spaceship t-shirt, and a yellow hearse with yellow underglow. The hearse is yellow for a reason he will happily explain: he is a licensed funeral home technician and an Uber driver, so it has to double as a taxi. As he puts it, “I drive the living and the dead. Sometimes at the same time.” He means that operationally.

His only vice is speeding, and his only real misunderstanding is what a speeding ticket is. Max believes a paid ticket is a permission slip. He keeps every one of them, and when a new officer pulls him over he hands one across as proof that the last officer already gave him permission. He is never rude about it. He pulls over instantly, agrees with the speed, thanks the officer, takes the new ticket, and adds it to the folder.

Then there is Bigfoot. Max believes, and he spends accordingly: expeditions, thermal cameras, trail cams, anyone willing to go look. He subscribes to Bigfoot Monthly and cites it like a newspaper. He also drives an armored box truck built to keep Bigfoot out, made by a man he met on a paranormal forum and calls Chuck Chuck Chuck, and he reports that Bigfoot keeps stealing the license plate off it. The part people forget is that Max was right in public: he picked Bigfoot up on Great Ocean Highway, drove him around all day, and brought him to Celia’s birthday party in front of a crowd.

On Zero State he also serves as a reserve state trooper. He signed up online, they mailed him a badge and a gun, and there was no training. He loves the job, wears the fedora with the uniform, and everyone agrees somebody really should look into how he got hired. Nobody ever has.

Ask Max what his brother does and he will tell you Kevin is an entrepreneur who likes to shoot. He means it.

How he plays
Sincere, cheerful, curious and completely disarming. Oblivious rather than arrogant. Never runs, never fights, never lies to a cop. Trusts everybody and funds anything Bigfoot related.
Signature
Green hair, fedora and spaceship t-shirt, never changed. Yellow hearse with yellow underglow, plus an armored Bigfoot-proof box truck. A metal detector in the trunk and a folder of old speeding tickets he treats as permission slips.
